Our Website Development Process
How To Get The Website That’s Right For You
We know that a professional business website is an important investment, so we work with you to create the website that’s right for you. As our partner, you play an active role in the process.
From start to finish, we communicate with you, ask for your feedback and make sure that you’re satisfied before we move to the next phase of the project, ensuring that the website that you get is exactly the website that you want.
Developing a professional business website takes planning, skill, organization and attention to detail. We’ve divided our website process into distinct phases that illustrate the process so you know what to expect.
Our 12-Step Process
Although no two projects are the same, the phases outlined below are typical of most of our website projects. The process may vary based on the technical requirements and complexity of your website.
- Planning and Research
- Competitor Analysis
- Information Architecture and Site Map
- Website Design
- Website Development
- Staging Server
- Content Entry
- Website Launch
- Post-Launch Technical Support
This important first step gives us the foundation for your website project. Working with you, we learn about your company and your customers, review your business needs and discuss your website and marketing goals. We determine your website's technical, content and design requirements as well as suggest features and functionality for your site.
We review your competitors’ websites, analyze their websites’ strength and weaknesses and determine how we can make your site stand out from the competition.
This is a key step in your website’s design and development process. Working with you, we determine, prioritize and organize your website’s content areas. We create a site map for your review which lays out all of the pages on your site and shows your site’s information hierarchy and navigation.
We create black-and-white sketches, or wireframes, which show options for basic layouts for your key website pages. With no styling, color or graphics, wireframes are intentionally “bare bones” and meant to focus attention on the structure and arrangement of the elements on a web page without any design distractions.
During this phase, we develop the look and feel of your website. We incorporate color palette, fonts and style attributes. We create and submit for your review design mock-ups for your home page and interior pages as well as a mobile phone mock-up.
This is where the actual building and programming of your site begins. Approved designs are converted into HTML and integrated into your site. We build all of your website pages and add the content management system. All features and functionality are implemented, making your site fully operational. Dummy text, which serves as a placeholder until it’s replaced with your actual text, will be added to all pages.
We test your website on all major browsers and on mobile phones to make sure all pages display and function correctly. We perform rigorous internal testing and correct any technical or display issues that may arise.
We move your new website to a staging server for your review and feedback. You’ll be able to view all of your web pages and test all functionality as you navigate through and interact with your new site.
We train you and/or your staff on how to use your website’s content management system. You’ll learn how to update content; create, publish and delete pages; create meta descriptions; and add images and captions.
We remove dummy text and populate up to ten pages of your website content for you. Once you’ve received training, you’ll be able to easily add any remaining website content to your site in preparation for launch.
We address any remaining issues, conduct final checks and determine that your website is ready to go “live.” Upon getting final approval from you, we launch your new website. We continue to monitor and test your site over the next several days to make sure that your site is performing properly.
We provide 30 days of post-launch website support so we can correct any newly discovered issues and assist you with any questions about managing your website content.
